-Press *7890# and then get to REG CLR if the message about power is still there.  Hold on to the FIND HANDSET button for about 4 seconds to have a IN USE light turn on solid.  Now, press the # button on the handset. Voila!
+Grab a handset, and if it still says "Out of range or no pwr at base" press on Menu and get to Settings. Then press *7890#, which will display TEST HANDSET. Click MENU/SELECT, and then get to REGSTR CLEAR and click MENU/SELECT again.  MENU/SELECT once more to confirm.  Hold on OFF/CANCEL until "To register HS ... see manual" message comes up. If "To register HS" still doesn't come up, remove battery and put it back in about 20 seconds later.
