EV (Electric Vehicle)

BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle)

All electric cars with no secondary source of power. There are no ICE (internal combustion engine), no fuel tank, and no exhaust pipe.

HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle)

Includes a conventional ICE and an electric propulsion system (hybrid vehicle drivetrain). Do not plug in for recharge of batteries.

PHEV (Plug in Hybrid Electric Vehicle)

Both ICE and battery powered. Unlike regular hybrid EVs, these require batteries to be recharged.

MHEV (Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle)

Includes a small battery to increase efficiency of ICE.

FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle)

Primarily powered by fuel cells rather than batteries.
